This Summer's BCS SIGiST conference kicked off with a provocative talk, "Are you managing testing - or 'The test process'?", by Fiona Charles. I say provocative because the fundamental message was (paraphrased): "If you're writing test plans and you're writing test cases, you're doing it wrong."

Checklists are used in various industries to inform and track highly specialised tasks. Implementation is difficult, as people tend to think checklists are beneath them, but checklists are effective and they are simple.
